The UNS S31600 Bolts are made up of the 316 austenitic stainless steel. The material is a chromium nickel molybdenum alloy. Unlike the 304 grade of stainless steel, the 316 stainless steel has molybdenum added to the composition and has resistance to chloride ion corrosion stress cracking. The salt water contains sodium chloride in ionized form. Since the marine and sea water applications are in chloride ion rich environment, the applications would require chloride ion resisting material. as the UNS S31600 Bolts are made up of 316 chloride ion corrosion resistant material, they are better for fastening options in marine applications.
