Super Duplex 2507 UNS S32750 Overview
Duplex 2507 is a super duplex stainless steel designed for applications which demand exceptional strength and corrosion resistance. Alloy 2507 has 25% chromium, 4% molybdenum, and 7% nickel. This high molybdenum, chromium and nitrogen content results in excellent resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion attack and the duplex structure provides 2507 with exceptional resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking.
Usage of Super Duplex 2507 should be limited to applications below 600° F (316° C). Extended elevated temperature exposure can reduce both the toughness and corrosion resistance of alloy 2507.
Super Duplex 2507 possesses excellent mechanical properties. often a light gauge of 2507 material can be used to achieve the same design strength of a thicker nickel alloy. The resulting savings in weight can dramatically reduce the overall cost of fabrication.
Super Duplex Corrosion Resistance
2507 Duplex is highly resistant to uniform corrosion by organic acids such as formic and acetic acid. It is alsohighly resistant to inorganic acids, especially if they contain chlorides. Alloy 2507 is highly resistant to carbide-related intergranular corrosion. Due to the ferritic portion of the duplex structure of the alloy it is very resistant to stress corrosion cracking in warm chloride containing environments. Through additions of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen localized corrosion such as pitting and crevice attack are improved. Alloy 2507 has excellent localized pitting resistance.

Super Duplex stainless like S32750, is a mixed microstructure of austenite and ferrite (50/50) which has improved strength over ferritic and austenitic steel grades. The main difference is that Super Duplex has a higher molybdenum and chromium content which gives the material greater corrosion resistance than standard duplex grades.
The balanced duel phase microstructure combines high strength with cost effective corrosion resistance particularly in high chloride environments. Super Duplex has the same benefits as its counterpart – it has lower alloying costs when compared with similar ferritic and austenitic grades with equipment corrosion resistance in chloride containing environments due to the material’s increased tensile and yield strength. In many cases this gives the purchaser the welcomed option of purchasing smaller thicknesses without the need to compromise on quality and performance.

The various heat treatment processes are annealing, normalizing, hardening, tempering, spheroidising, surface hardening, flame and induction hardening, nitriding, cyaniding, carbonitriding, carburizing etc Heat treatment on duplex stainless steel is to improve ductility, toughness, strength, hardness and to relieve internal stress developed in the material. Here basically the experiment of hardness test, impact test, wear test and compression is done to get idea about heat treated duplex stainless steel, which has extensive uses in all industries and scientific research and development fields.
The duplex stainless steel material was heated to 900° c and is kept at this temperature for soaking for 3 different timings. The soaking conditions was varied from 30minutes, 45minutes, and 60minutes. The material after heating was made to cool very slowly. The cooling of the material after heating was done by placing the material in the sand which is a very slow cooling process.
