Carbon steel bars are available in round, square, flat, and hexagon bars in the hot rolled or cold drawn condition. While hot rolled and cold drawn bars have the same general shape, they are very different in their dimensional characteristics.Carbon steel bar is defined as such, when no minimum chemical content is specified for aluminum, chromium, cobalt, columbium, molybdenum, nickel, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, or zirconium, or any other element added to obtain a desired alloying effect.

High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) steel bars consist of a group of steels with chemical compositions developed to maximize strength, ductility, weldability, and corrosion resistance. HSLA steels are produced with an emphasis on these properties rather than chemical composition limits. For this reason they are not considered alloy steels.

Hot Roll Bars – Produced on rolling mills that leave surface imperfections that include scale, seams, flat spots, ridges, etc.

Cold Drawn Bars – Hot rolled bars that have had secondary processes applied to improve the surface finish and to size the bar more precisely.
